Ioannina Tablecloth
Benaki Collection
The Ioannina Tablecloth is inspired by an antique textile from the esteemed Benaki Museum of Greek Culture in Athens. Its vibrant organic floral pattern evokes the variations and imperfections of the original weaver’s handiwork.
The original textile dates from the early 19th century, made up of repurposed embroidered borders of bedsheets, stitched together into splendidly decorative covers. It originates from Ioannina in North West Greece, which was prosperous city with enormous trade, known for its important silver- and gold-smithing workshops.
The Benaki Collection marks Cabana’s first design partnership directly inspired by a museum or public institution. A percentage of sales will go now to the Benaki Museum, supporting its ongoing work to preserve and celebrate the arts in Greece.
