Creta Tablecloth, Square
Benaki Collection
The Creta Tablecloth is inspired by an antique textile from the esteemed Benaki Museum of Greek Culture in Athens. An elegant cream backdrop is embellished with an ornate pattern inspired by the rich embroideries of Greece’s most southern island, Crete. The traditional Cretan design draws from the rich mythology of Ancient Crete and the Minoan, Byzantine and Italian cultures that have all left their mark on the island.
The original Cretan textile comes from the decorated hem of a dress, embroidered with silk on a linen & cotton base fabric. The motifs of carnation flower arrangements and double-headed eagles originate from Venetian embroidery pattern books from the 16th century.
The Benaki Collection marks Cabana’s first design partnership directly inspired by a museum or public institution. A percentage of sales will go directly to the Benaki Museum, supporting its ongoing work to preserve and celebrate the arts in Greece.
